Legends of Tomorrow and other Arrowverse shows In Pre-Production for next season
CategoryWith the exception of Black Lightning and Arrow, all of the Arrowverse shows on the CW had truncated seasons. The shutdown of production due to the novel coronavirus outbreak ended shows early, including Legends of Tomorrow, which didn’t begin production until production for the crisis On limitless Earths Crossover was wrapping up. However, Marc Guggenheim revealed in a new interview that the team of Arrowverse writers are already hard at work. Legends of Tomorrow is already in pre-production for next season. So, it’s safe to assume that the other shows are already working out how they are going to pick up where they left off.
For example, The Flash season finale left Candace Patton’s Iris West trapped in another dimension. meanwhile grant Gustin’s Barry Allen is wounded and without his powers. (And, we also know that the Reverse-Flash was indicated to rear his yellow head by the planned finale.) Luckily, Legends has three a lot more episodes in-the-can to air.
Guggenheim also hinted that budgetary limitations may come into play. The Arrowverse has been massively successful, delivering way a lot more VFX shots than lots of network television series on a fraction of the budget of a Blacklist or even other CW series like All American. Still, with Legends of Tomorrow in pre-production without knowing the budget, the writers are just going for it.

As he told Comic book Resources:
“I will say that, during the pandemic, the writers have been working and they’ve been generating story papers and the story papers are amazing and they’re hysterical…. I think that that’s kind of the approach that Legends has always taken, which is that the idea and the story and the characters come first and then the logistical feasibility of pulling something off, that becomes very last…. That’s just as true with season 6, in large part also because no one knows exactly how and when production will resume and what limitations there will be. but I think if you can try to get ahead of it, you end up closing doors that would otherwise remain open.”
It’s unclear what shape the future seasons of the CW series will take, though we know they will be shortened. new seasons for The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and the rest of the Arrowverse slate aren’t expected until early 2021. Also, Batwoman is in a bit of a pickle, because they have to recast their lead actor after Ruby rose unexpectedly exited the series. Also, the annual crossover will just happen over two hours on Batwoman and the new series Superman and Lois. (Though, hopefully other smaller crossovers can happen with supporting casts and the like.)
Still, no matter what happens, it’s good news that Legends of Tomorrow and other Arrowverse shows are in pre-production for next season. In fact, the obstacles the storytellers encounter as a result of the shutdown could cause some of their best storytelling yet.
